The Thirsty crow
By: jasmin

Once upon a time, there was a crow.

It was very hot that day and he had to fly a lot to look for food grains.

He was tired and thirsty.

He landed on a tree and looked for water to quench his thirst.

Suddenly, he found the farmer’s pitcher, half filled with water.

The crow’s beak was small and did not reach the water level.

Now this crow was very intelligent, he collected pebbles,

and threw them inside the pitcher, one by one.

The level of water rose steadily.

The clever crow drank the water and flew away happily.

Soon, he had his own family of Mrs. Crow and little kid crows.

He would often tell them the story of his cleverness, of getting the water level up.

This story became the family saga to be told to every new crow in the family.

Some years later, the great grandson of this clever crow went through a similar situation.

He flew everywhere, in search of food, and became tired and thirsty.

Instantly, he remembered the family story to quench his thirst.

However, to his dismay, there were no pitchers in sight as he was in a city and not in a farm.

He landed on the wall of a shop and searched for water there.

Soon he found a jug, half filled with water, lying on a table near the shop..

However, he could not find pebbles around to throw them in.

He was still pondering over other possibilities

when he saw a little boy drinking a cola from a bottle, with a straw.

When the boy sucked in, the cola rose into his mouth.

Soon the boy returned his bottle, and the shopkeeper threw the straw into the dustbin nearby.

Our crow was watching this, intently.

He thought of drinking water with a straw.

He flew down, and picked up the straw from the dustbin and sat near the jug of water.

When the shopkeeper was not looking, he put the straw inside the jug and sucked hard.

The water raised high into his beak and filled his mouth with water.

The crow quenched his thirst and flew away happily.

He thanked his great grandfather for the inspiration.

Now this new saga of drinking water  is being told to the new crows in the family.

Moral of the story

“Take inspiration from old methods and devise new ways for success.”
