A few years ago, I was visiting India. Aligarh, to be exact.
I have
a few relative in India, but I was born and bred in England.
Consequently, I was wholly unprepared to face the atmosphere in India.

The
first week I was there, I visited a mandir, or temple, as a tourist
attraction. It was a giant, marble and colored glass contraption, and
it was absolutely breathtaking. Anyway, I took my shoes off, as was the
custom, and stepped inside.

The inside was even more beautiful
than the outside. I watched as a group of Hindus prayed to a god named
Krishna, and threw marigold on his statue.

Anyways, as I was
preparing to leave, I went to go look for my shoes (a $330 pair of
Uggs). I looked for a few minutes, and still couldn't find them. After
about an hour of looking, I spotted a man sneaking away, my shoes in
his hands. =(
